When applying, please indicate whether you are applying for the Inside Wireman program, the Telecommunications program, or both.


Minimum Requirements

To apply, complete an application and return it to our office within 30 days of receipt. Along with your application, please submit the following required documentation:

  • Official Birth Certificate
    Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of Department of Labor (DOL) registration.*
  • Proof of Education
    One of the following is required:
    • Official high school diploma
    • College diploma
    • GED
  • Transcripts
    You must submit official transcripts showing:
    • Two (2) semesters of high school Algebra, or
    • One (1) semester of 100-level or college Algebra
    • Grade of C (2.0) or higher
      Transcripts will only be accepted if:
    • Emailed directly from the school or a third party (e.g., Parchment) to office@fsejatc.com, or
    • Delivered as a sealed paper copy with school letterhead
  • Valid Identification
    Acceptable forms include:
    • State-issued driver’s license
    • State ID card
    • Voter registration card

*Applicants under age 18 or still enrolled in high school are allowed to apply, test, and interview. However, they will not be issued a training assignment until proof of minimum age and high school/GED completion is submitted.

Processing Fee:
There is a $25.00 non-refundable application fee (cash or check only; no credit/debit accepted).
If you are applying to both programs, only one fee and test is required.

Optional Supporting Documents

Applicants are encouraged to submit any of the following to strengthen their application:

  • Resume
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Documentation of hours worked in the electrical industry
  • Military discharge papers (DD-214)
  • Any additional materials that offer insight into your background and qualifications

Application Process

Step 1: Submit Application and Documents
Once your completed application and all required documents are received and verified, you’ll be scheduled—via mail—for an aptitude test. Testing is scheduled when a sufficient number of applicants is reached.

Step 2: Aptitude Test

  • 3-hour test covering basic Algebra and English comprehension
  • Administered at the Training Center
  • A passing score is required to advance
  • If you do not pass, you may retake the test after 3 months by submitting a Re-Take Form and paying a $25.00 re-test fee

Step 3: Oral Interview
Applicants who pass the aptitude test will be invited to a 15-minute interview with the FSEJATC Committee. Notification of the interview date and time will be sent via mail.

Step 4: Program Acceptance
Applicants accepted into the program must complete a drug screening and will have a background check done, provided at the JATC’s expense.
Failure to take or pass the drug screening will result in disqualification.


Direct Interview Opportunities

Based on Military Experience

You may qualify for a direct interview if you meet any of the following:

  • Active Duty: Completed at least 3 years of active-duty U.S. military service, with an honorable discharge within 5 years of applying
  • Reserves: Completed at least 6 years of service in the U.S. military reserves, currently serving or honorably discharged within 2 years of applying
  • MOS Experience: Completed a technical training school and served at least 2 years in a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) applicable to commercial/industrial electrical work within 5 years
  • Residency Waiver: Served overseas or lived on a military installation for at least 2 years—residency restrictions are waived

Must provide DD-214 or equivalent documentation acceptable to the JATC


Based on Industry Experience

Applicants may qualify based on prior work experience in the electrical construction industry:

  • 2,000+ hours of verified work in any specifically in electrical construction setting
  • 4,000+ hours of verified work specifically in commercial or industrial electrical construction may qualify for direct entry
    (Note: General construction or unrelated electrical experience does not count)

Acceptable documentation may include:

  • Tax/payroll records
  • Notarized letters from previous employers
